Application & Materials

We are currently working with North Carolina State University, Norfolk State University, Hampton University, and Fisk University. Each summer we select four students - one from each HBCU - to receive a stipend, direct paid housing on the UCSC campus, and paid travel to come to UC Santa Cruz and participate in research throughout the summer. This cohort of four students will return to their home campus', continue their research, and come back the following year for a two-year total program. Each summer reseach internship is about 8 weeks total. The summer 2024 the dates in Santa Cruz are Sunday June 16 to Friday August 9, 2024.

Applicants should be rising sophomores or rising juniors to apply - unfortunately, we cannot accept students in the final year of their undergraduate career.

Selected participants will work directly with faculty and students at UCSC and gain experience in chemical and biological techniques, scientific communication and presentation, planning for future careers, and data analysis.

Each selected student from each school will receive: $6,000 stipend, a $50 per-diem for daily meals,  housing in a UCSC shared appartment will be paid directly,  and up to $1,000 for Round trip air travel tickets and checked baggage. The UCSC team will provide pickup and drop off at local airports (SFO or SJC), and each participating lab receives $500 for student supplies.
